Are we safe?

Are we really safe?

This is one of the biggest questions that we are facing today. And because of this news of the gang rape that happened a few days ago in Delhi itself, this questions gets more profound. But do we really have an answer to this question. No. The question still remains there and so do we.

One incident and we are all in a state of shock. Rape is such a heinous crime that is graver than murder. And the punishment for such a heinous crime in our country is just 7 years of imprisonment. Not much of a punishment for the mental and emotional trauma that the accused have given her! Huh? All we can do is to give suggestions about the various kind of punishment we can give to such accused.

But is it enough? What I think is that the problem is in the whole society. We, as a society, have not been able to come up as a healthy one. And that's the fault that we need to bear. The thing is not that the people who did this were lusty. They have got the various options to take out that lust. It's the sickness that gets hold of them. And this sickness is the result of the society that taught them that it's ok to dominate women and do the violence to ease their frustration.

What is surely needed to be done is to instill good morals in your kids, a respect towards womanhood and a sense of equality. This can to some extent help in eradicating such crimes.
